Business Arising:
(a) Presentation Emily Cormier - City of SSM - Delay – Was unable to attend and will instead be
attending our next meeting.
(b) Clean North Update – As a committee we need to decide what we want to do, discuss some
initiatives and bring them to Clean North. They may be able to help, and/or have a conversation
with us for next steps.
(c) Season of Creation 2022 Reflections – Bulletin board was put up during this time as well as text in the bulletins. Rose-Marie to take the bulletin board down. World Water Day is March 22, April 22 is Earth Day, post information in the bulletin. Schedule another clean up in May.
(d) Adopt a Highway - Report – Discussion regarding feasability of continuing. Aging population,
should we continue? Last clean-up the flies weren't bad, weather was good. Wanda, John and
Karen's highway section was a little dangerous, keep that in mind. It might be better to adopt a
street instead of continuing with the highway program. We will look into it with the city.
Highway clean-up raises concerns of capacity issue, lack of volunteers. We have committed to a
2-year term, look into when it ends and then decide if we want to discontinue. If we move to
the adopt a street program it will be easier to manage, it will be within city limits, less travel,
easier access, less dangerous, possibly would be able to get more volunteers, reach out to
students.
New Business:
a) Strategic Plan - Future of Committee – What we are trying to work on, need areas and types of initiatives. We will discuss and plan on areas we want to work on, what we want to accomplish.
How do we advance this goal, etc. Idea for dissussion of a strategic plan, “He's what we want to
centre on,” for example metal lids – once a month. Is there something we need to do in our
committee, within the church itself? Further discussion is required to plan our goals and next
steps.
Katie has suggested coffee nights, after masses, discussion with parishioners, letting them know
what we do and changes we've made. Start a conversation and offer a chance for people to ask
questions. Katie has also suggested a clothing swap after Christmas, a day after mass.
Advertising to collect items beforehand to be sorted.
We should discuss areas of interest and provide information, and actions to let others know
what we our committe is working on.
Possibility of having a movie night, environmental theme. Getting parishioners, around 20
people, to attend and participate. Ideas to be offered at our next meeting.
b) Densifier Letter – Chris has written a letter, asking the committe to review it and email him any
suggested edits, corrections and/or changes. Once it is final he will send it to the city environmental sustainability committee.
c) Church Initiatives for Website – Add tabs on the site, show things we are doing or have already done / completed and ongoing projects. Add the information from our talk with John Martella from GFL, provide information and education on recycling.
